Why do I need procedures and how can they help with employees?
One of the reasons you want to have procedures is so that your employees know your expectations. Look, employee turnover can be enormously expensive for companies. And so, you want to set out clear and concise expectations that can help keep them happy, show them how to do their job, what you expect from them, and help coach them.
Now let’s look at the negative side. You also want to be able to protect your company from employees, because they are also a vulnerability. And you need to be able to have progressive discipline. Ultimately, this can protect you from lawsuits for wrongful termination. If that’s a possibility, and you know it can be, they could claim that you fired them for an illegitimate reason or an illegal reason, like race or sexual discrimination. It can also help document out a way to protect your company from unemployment claims.
So, your procedures are one of the foundational ways to protect your company from the vulnerabilities created by having employees and the claims that they can make against your company. If you have questions, just give us a call. We’d love to help you.
